AmNav Maritime Services Wins National Award for Forty Years of Injury-Free Operations
Honored with Jones F. Devlin Award
Devlin Award Brings Higher Standard of Safety and Quality Service to Bay Area Company
OAKLAND, CA June 9, 2008 – AmNav Maritime Services was recognized by the Chamber of Shipping of America at the Annual Ship Safety Awards Luncheon held on June 5th, 2008 in Houston, Texas. The Jones F. Devlin Award which recognizes the injury-free operation of their tugboats Liberty, Capt. Mike, Marauder, Pacific Combi, Patriot and Sarah. The tugboats were given the award for operating a cumulative total of 40 years injury-free.
The Devlin Award can be awarded to a self-propelled merchant vessel that has operated for at least two full years or more without any occupational injuries. Two levels of achievement are recognized: a basic award; given at the two year mark and every year thereafter; and a special award: given at the five year mark and at every fifth anniversary from then on.
“We are proud to receive this prestigious honor recognizing safety achievement at sea,” said Milt Merritt, president of AmNav Maritime Services. “We strive to maintain efficient as well as safe operations and it’s nice to be recognized for this on a national level,” he added. “The Devlin Award is a fitting addition to our existing Responsible Carrier Program Certification from the American Waterways Operators and provides motivation as we move towards ISM/ISO certification.”
The ISM certification is given for meeting the criteria of the International Safety Management code for the safe operation of ships and pollution prevention, as adopted by the International Maritime Organization. The ISO 9001:2000 certification is given for meeting the criteria for quality management standards for business, government and industry as set forth by the International Organization of Standardization. ISO is formed by standards bodies from more than 140 countries working in partnership with international organizations, governments, industries, businesses and consumer representatives.
